Download: Business for the new Italian market (.pdf file)Mario Zanolli is well known in Italy for his breeding of Killifish and Lake Malawi and Tanganyika Cichlids. His company Allevamento pesci tropicale is based in Verona, where it moved to a new site with modern facilities in 2003. Three large buildings house the breeding, import, coldwater and marine sections, which are all strictly segregated. There's also a greenhouse for the plant section. Mario Zanolli has business contracts with many of the most innovative and successful European breeders. The high quality of his fish is the result of a 3- to 4-week quarantine period and hard work. The business partnership between Mario Zanolli and his customers offers a lot of new, progressive opportunities for the ornamental fish retail business. The manager states that the mass market in the ornamental fish segment destroys the image and the future of many aquatics shops, so his company offers programmes for shop specialisation. "Step by step retailers are changing the face and image of their shops and finding a stable basis for the business in future years," Mario Zanolli continues. "We don't just sell fish to our customers. We restore hope and offer ideas for the future identity and image of the ornamental fish business in Italy."He believes that traditional aquatics shops must have a future. His philosophy is that business and profit are really possible if everybody works hard and in an organized manner. If shops reduce the amount of effort they put in and their prices, they also directly reduce their profit and can no longer easily pay the high, expanding costs and invoices. And then at a later stage the shop has to close. Mario Zanolli offers a good service to his customers too: delivery directly to the shop is a standard feature. Since 2002 he has been the exclusive partner of the "Tropical Fish Network - German Exclusive Breeders" for the Italian market. This company is world famous for its breeding innovations in Angelfish and rare tropical fish. Interested and highly specialised shops could benefit from this exclusivity, as hobbyists would be able to find fishes they are really interested in."We offer our contact and business partnership to every honest shop," Mario Zanolli continues.
