US pet supplies and pet food manufacturer West Paw has announced that it has been recertified as a B Corp. "We are also proud to have been the first certified B Corp in the pet industry and to have made a difference in our eleven years as a B Corp," it said in a statement to the Pet Sustainability Coalition.

B Corp is a certification that a company meets high standards in factors such as social and environmental performance, charitable giving, supply chain practices and source materials. West Paw was first certified as a B Corp in 2013 because "we believe that companies should be a force for good in the world and help for-profit employers become more inclusive, equitable, ethical and sustainable."

The assessment process is constantly evolving and is designed to encourage companies to improve with each certification. West Paw has launched the Seaflex product line, which is made from 12 per cent recycled plastic sourced from the ocean and repurposed, uses locally sourced organic meat for its treats, and is committed to its employees, its home community of Bozeman, Montana, and animal welfare.
