As part of a representative study, Fressnapf/Maxi Zoo asked almost 3 000 pet owners in Germany, France and Poland about their gift-giving habits for their pets. The result: a total of 62 per cent of Polish pet owners want to give their pets a present, compared to 53 per cent in Germany. And French pet owners came in at 45 per cent.

The figures show that there are differences between the three countries in terms of who is most likely to be given a present: In Germany and France, dog owners are the most likely to want to make their four-legged friends happy. In Poland, owners of small animals, birds, aquariums or terrariums are the most popular gift givers.

Also interesting: In all three countries, women are more likely than men to be responsible for a festive surprise. In Germany and France, 18-29 year olds are the most likely to plan gifts, while in Poland 18-29 year olds are on a par with 30-39 year olds. Pet owners in all three countries agree on what tops their pets' wish lists, namely treats and toys.

There is also agreement on the budget for pet gifts: Most pet owners budget between 10 and 20 euros for the surprises. In Germany and Poland, almost a third of pet lovers are prepared to spend up to 50 euros.
