Loopworm has announced that it has received the prestigious EU Traces certification for its silkworm pupae-derived products for both pet and animal nutrition. The approval number means that the Indian company, which claims to be a pioneer in the field of sustainable insect-based nutrition, is now fully authorised to supply its innovative ingredients to the European Union market.

This milestone positions the start-up, which operates a GMP+, ISO 22000, and HACCP certified facility with a capacity of 6 000 metric tonnes per annum, as a key player in the EU market for sustainable protein sources, said the company in a press release. Co-founder and CEO, Mr. Ankit Alok Bagaria, expressed his excitement: “We are thrilled to enter the European market and are already in discussions with multiple pet food companies eager to integrate our products into their formulations.”

Its best-selling products include a silkworm pupae meal concentrate and a nutrient-rich Omega 3,6,9 flavour oil. Whole dried silkworms are also used as a natural dietary supplement for hamsters, rabbits, ferrets, wild birds, reptiles, and ornamental fish.
