The European industry association Fediaf has held its annual congress and annual general meeting in Warsaw. More than 100 members and guests attended the event. They represented 15 trade associations from 18 European countries. The crucial role of protecting the key ingredients of pet food, including feed additives, which are essential for the nutrition of the 352 million pets in Europe, was emphasised.
After a welcome address by Fediaf president Rosa Carbonell and secretary general Sonia Franck, Marta Koncewicz and Pawel Mackiewicz from the Polish Veterinary Inspectorate General Poland provided valuable insights into possible improvements to the authorisation process. In addition, Paola Ferraro, legislative officer of DG Sante, Food Hygiene, Feed and Fraud, European Commission, explained the risk management process and Jörg Seifert, secretary general of Fefana (EU Association for Speciality Feed and Feed Mixtures), shared his views on the future of the re-authorisation process. Matteo Innocente and Oscar Gonzalez, representatives of the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority), followed with information on their services, submission procedures and renewal processes.
Following the presentations, a Q&A session moderated by Matt Elliot, regulatory affairs manager at Mars Petcare Europe and chairman of the Fediaf working group on Additives, gave participants the opportunity to discuss the topics in greater depth.
