Stemming from its partnership with Billy Chip, a social enterprise supporting homeless people, the UK pet store chain Jollyes has donated over £25 000 to those living on the streets and their pets.
In the first six weeks following the launch, Jollyes customers bought over 12 000 Billy Chips, says the company. Customers can either buy a Billy Chip and give it personally to people who are homeless or put it into a special box at the till. A Billy Chip can be exchanged for dog food for a homeless person with a pet or can be used in participating cafes and restaurants to get a hot drink or a meal.
Customers of the Jollyes branch in Kettering alone purchased 1 600 Billy Chips. Other Jollyes stores with high Billy Chip sales are in Hull, Cannock, Great Bridge in Tipton, and Dereham.
