35.27 mio tons of pet food

In its report Agri-Food Outlook 2023, the US company Alltech states that international production of pet food exceeded a volume of 35.27 mio tons in 2022. This compares with 32.88 mio tons the previous year. The data is based on information received from 28 000 manufacturers in 128 countries.

With regard to volume, Europe is the biggest pet food producer with a volume of 11.7 mio tons in 2022, an increase of 1.65 per cent compared with the previous year. One notable aspect of European production is the big increase of 75 per cent in production in France. Internationally, Latin America recorded the strongest growth (+19.2 per cent), closely followed by the Middle East (+17.2 per cent).
