Maxi Zoo Italia becomes part of the new Arcaplanet Group

Private equity firm Cinven has acquired a majority stake in leading Italian pet retail chain Arcaplanet from Permira. Cinven also has a stake in private label pet food company Partner in Pet Food, so it is no stranger to the pet industry.
Cinven and Arcaplanet are also acquiring Maxi Zoo Italia, the number 3 pet retailer in Italy, which belongs to the Fressnapf Group.
Maxi Zoo Italia currently operates around 120 stores. The approximately 500 Arcaplanet and Maxi Zoo Italia stores will in future be combined in the Arcaplanet Group.
In return, Fressnapf will become a strong minority shareholder of Arcaplanet, subject to the approval of the cartel authorities, alongside the private equity company Cinven and the management of Arcaplanet, "with a long-term strategic orientation of the Arcaplanet Group", as stated in a press release.
