Tetra boss Wolfgang Mollenhauer: “The new ownership will not mean any changes in principle for employees or customers.”

The American consumer goods group Spectrum Brands has announced that it has sold its entire pet business, which trades as the United Pet Group (UPG), to Salton, Inc. UPG is known in Europe as Tetra Europe, which markets the pet brands “Tetra” and “8in1”. The business was sold for a total of $ 915 mio. Subject to the agreement of the regulatory authority, the transaction is expected to be completed by 31 August. Salton, Inc., whose main stockholder is Harbinger Capital Partners, is known chiefly as a leading distributor of various small home appliances, such as coffee makers and toasters, and personal care products. Its current involvement in the pet sector is in the cat hygiene segment, where it distributes the “LitterMaid” brand. Wolfgang Mollenhauer, vice-president of UPG and CEO of Tetra Europe, stresses that the new ownership will not result in any changes in principle for employees or customers.
