However, Wyevale recorded losses in the first six months

The UK garden centre chain, Wyevale, completed the first six months with a decline in sales. Sales were down by 1.9 per cent overall to £ 108.2 mio (€ 158.8 mio), or 1.7 per cent in like-for-like terms, in comparison with the same period last year. Since then, however, the company has been recording positive figures again: sales up by 4.8 per cent, or 3.4 per cent like-for-like.
Over the first six months the company redesigned and re-launched six outlets, which were given a new image that included restaurant facilities among other things. These garden centres have seen results up 24 per cent on their sales targets from the corresponding period in the previous year since the re-launch. A further 12 stores are to be redeveloped in 2005. Eleven outlets with below-average results have either been sold already, are up for sale or have been closed down.
