Fine foods for birds
The UK company Supreme Petfoods from Waterlooville, Hants, is to launch its “Calypso” bird food range. The new range consists of 12 separate products, each incorporating a mix of high quality, premium ingredients, for domestic birds including cockatiels, parrots, foreign finches, budgies and canaries, as well as wild birds. The range can be identified by its attractive, eye-catching signature green packaging, and striking pack imagery. “Calypso Oyster Shell Grit” is specially formulated for caged birds. “Calypso Egg Food” is a complementary food specifically formulated for caged birds. “Calypso Peanuts” are an excellent source of energy and are rich in protein and oils. “Calypso Sunflower Seeds” provide a high energy source to supplement both caged and wild birds’ diets. “Calypso Wild Bird Food” is a complementary food for wild birds, such as tits, finches and doves, and is an additional source of food and energy to help them through stressful times such as long winters, breeding and migration. “Calypso Parakeet & Cockatiel Food” is a complementary bird food for parakeets and cockatiels. “Calypso Parrot Food”, a high energy food, and “Calypso Fruity Parrot Food” are both complementary foods for parrots. “Calypso Foreign Finch Food” is a complementary bird food for foreign finches, while “Calypso Budgie Food” and “Calypso Canary Food” are complementary bird foods for budgies and canaries respectively. ”Calypso Millet Sprays” are sprays (branches) of millet seed and are a great treat for almost every bird, including wild birds.
Autumn/Winter Collection
British company Snoozzzeee Dog from Winsford, Cheshire, has launched its new Autumn/Winter Collection 2003. The new collection features a range of stylish and modern pet accessories and the existing product range has been substantially improved. All bed covers are fully washable at 40°C and all products now come with a two-year guarantee. The new range includes an exclusive leather dog bed in chocolate brown leather, with contrasting cream stitching and a brass zip, which promises to be one of this season’s most stylish accessories for both pet and home. The successful “Classic” range has been further enhanced by adding a quilted car blanket. This soft, quilted fleece blanket with waterproof backing is supplied with a detachable car fixing kit for securing the blanket to car headrests, but can also be used as a throw for your sofa and even as a picnic blanket. The “Relax” range for cats and dogs has now been modernised and upgraded to feature a new coordinated range of ceramic bowls, food mats, bedding and blankets for the lifestyle-conscious pet owner. They are available in a variety of colours and sizes.
Small pet carriers
The German firm Europet of Nuremberg has added more pet carriers to its “PAWS” plastic range. In addition to the “ML” carrier (35x25x25 cm) already on the market for cats, rabbits and ferrets, it now also supplies a small carrier “SM” measuring 30x20x20 cm for small animals and birds. The oval carriers have a double carrying handle and a transparent top-opening door. The elongated “FD“ and “TFD“ (57x38x38 cm) carriers differ in only one respect, the second top-opening door on the “TFD” model. Both models come complete with a water bowl. The carriers are supplied partly assembled and are obtainable in three single colours or a colour assortment.
A fascinating plant gets a new name
For some time the Danish company Tropica has been selling a plant known as “Pellia”, which has now been renamed Monosolenium tenerum. Monosolenium tenerum is a liverwort, and does not have leaves as such. It looks very much like Riccia magnified ten times. It makes only modest demands on the aquarium environment, and once it has begun to flourish it spreads generously, forming attractive cushions on the bottom of the aquarium. Its number at Tropica is 002C, and it is available as portions or attached to ceramic stones in three sizes.

The Italian company Ferplast from Castelgomberto is pleased to introduce the “Combi” range of cages, a new range of habitat solutions for hamsters with three different cage sets: “Combi 01”, “Combi 02” and “Combi 03” plus the “Lab” and “Gym” accessories. Using unique universal connectors both the “Lab and “Gym” can also be attached to all the cages in the “Tube” range: “Laura”, “Paula” and “Liza”. Thanks to this new and exciting habitat solution, children and their hamsters will discover new adventures and interchangeable housing that is able to satisfy all their natural creativity and gives them more time and freedom to play, to exercise and have more fun.
“Wet look” for dogs
The new “rain slickers” from US company Pedigree Perfection from Lauderhill are completely waterproof and easy to put on and remove with Velcro-adjustable chest and stomach straps. The “rain slickers” are available for all breeds from 6” to 30” in size, and come in the colours black, red, white, blue, yellow and with a moiré finish in denim blue.

German company Flexi of Bargteheide has now introduced an 8-metre version of its successful “Flexi Comfort” retractable lead. Like the other models, it has a soft handle and comes in three sizes, for small, medium and large dogs. It is available in five different colour combinations.
