The Brazilian market

The organisers of the trade fair Pet South America in Sao Paolo are estimating that the Brazilian market for pet food has a total share of about 800 mio US dollars (651 mio euro). The segment accessories has an annual turnover of about 400 mio US dollars (325 mio euro). Brazilians spend roughly 60 mio US dollars (49 mio euro) per year on animal health. The number of dogs is estimated at 27 mio and the number of cats at 11 mio. The Pet South America will be held from 29th September to the 1st October 2004. Last  year the fair attracted 20,000 visitors of which approximately one third came from the retail sector. And about 250 exhibitors attended the fair.
