First quarter increase in double figures for speciality chain

Sales by US speciality chain Pets Mart in the first quarter of 2004 (ended 2 May 2004) went up by 14.5 per cent to 796.3 mio US$ (665.4 mio €). Comparable store sales – or sales in stores open at least a year – grew by 8.7 per cent. Pet services sales by the company came to 58.4 mio US$ (48.8 mio €), 28.2 per cent up on the same period in the previous year. The chain opened 23 new stores and closed two locations. For the year as a whole Pets Mart has set itself a target of increasing comparable store sales by around 7 per cent.
