Acceleration of WLZ’s pet sector
WLZ Raiffeisen AG intends to further expand its activities in the home and garden business segment by introducing a new concept. For the first time ideas on the subject have been put wholly into practice in the newly opened pilot store in Backnang. Over recent months the company has invested approx. DM 2.5 mio in this store, which has been in existence since 1989. Divided into a temperate hall, a greenhouse and an outdoor area, the retail space has been doubled to about 3 700 m², including a splendid greenhouse extension and a specialist pet department of modern design. Now for the first time the WLZ product offer includes ornamental birds and fish and rodents as well. A wall of more than 100 aquariums contains around 5 000 fish, added to which are exotic aquatic plants and a great variety of accessories. A generously designed petting enclosure with rabbits and rodents is the main attraction for young visitors in particular.
“The concept is finalised. Now we want to multiply it as rapidly as possible in area,” emphasises Volkhard Hubschneider, who is retail division manager at WLZ. The aim is to invest in future in locations with a considerably larger catchment area. The new WLZ stores are to have a retail area of at least 3 500 m². The WLZ wants to convert or new-build two to three stores per year in the future.
The aquarium department is one of the highlights of the store in Backnang.
